Preparing for Brunel

What matters most at Brunel.

  1. 01

The interview is recorded rather than live: you get 30 seconds to think and up to five minutes to answer, with no interviewer to prompt you.

  2. 02

Practise speaking to a camera to time, structuring your answer before you start, since you cannot be steered back on track.

  3. 03

There are far fewer home places than international ones, so check the current numbers before choosing Brunel as one of four.

Notes by Dr S Farooq, MBChB, BSc (Hons). Checked October 2026.

MMI

Format

For 2027 entry: asynchronous virtual MMI (vMMI) on the Shortlister platform. There is no live interviewer and responses are recorded.

Stations and timing

For 2027 entry: six stations, each with 30 seconds of thinking time and up to 5 minutes to answer. All six typically take about 40 minutes and must be submitted within five days of the invitation; stations can be done in separate sittings.

In person or online

Online (asynchronous), 2027 entry.

Dates

Provisional home windows for 2027 entry are 16-21 February 2027 and 9-14 March 2027. International windows run from November 2026 to July 2027.

How it counts

Marks are summed across the six stations, with no minimum per station. Applicants are ranked, the Admissions Committee sets a cut-off based on cohort performance, and each applicant receives an offer, a place on the waiting list or a rejection.

What Brunel assesses

  • A different attribute per station
  • Aligned with Good Medical Practice
  • No biology or detailed medical knowledge

What the tasks involve

  • Scenario-based questions on how you think and respond
