Preparing for Manchester
What matters most at Manchester.
- 01
An SJT band 1 or 2 is needed alongside the UCAT threshold to be likely to be interviewed.
- 02
Five stations of eight minutes give time to develop answers; practise reasoning aloud.
- 03
Manchester was considering replacing one station with a group task, so be ready for a collaborative station.
Notes by Dr S Farooq, MBChB, BSc (Hons). Checked October 2026.

Use the Medical Schools Council interview resources; speak naturally and avoid rehearsed answers. Manchester says it does not endorse commercial courses and that there is no evidence they help.

Situational judgement (SJT)
For 2027 entry, only Bands 1 and 2 are considered; Bands 3 and 4 are not.
Published UCAT scores
2026 entry: 2060 standard, 1960 WP+, 2250 overseas (new 2700-point scale). 2025 entry: 2710 standard, 2520 WP+ (old scale).
GCSEs
At least seven GCSEs at grade 7 or above, with English Language, Maths and at least two sciences at grade 6 or above. Six grade 7s may be accepted for WP+/WP++ applicants. Resits are allowed.
Other qualifications

Contextual offers
AAB for UK applicants under 21 who meet the postcode criteria and attended a below-average school or college, or who received free school meals; ABB for care-experienced, sanctuary-seeking or carer applicants. A lower WP+ UCAT threshold applies (1960 for 2026 entry).
